Introduction
So, you've got your DTF transfers from Transfer Gang :P, and you're ready to print! But how do you ensure that your transfers are perfectly applied every time? This guide’ll take you through step-by-step instructions to help you achieve long-lasting, professional-quality prints.
Step-by-Step Guide to Applying DTF Transfers
These instructions provide the general application settings for standard cotton and cotton-blend garments. If you're working with polyester, nylon, or other specialty fabrics, the temperature, pressure, and peeling method may vary slightly.
Step 1: Prepare Your Fabric
✔ Pre-press your fabric for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles.
✔ Make sure the surface is clean and lint-free.
Step 2: Position Your Transfer
✔ Place the DTF transfer film on the garment design side up.
✔ Use a ruler or alignment tool to ensure correct placement.
Step 3: Heat Press Application
- Temperature: 150-160°C
- Time: 10-15 seconds
- Pressure: Medium to firm
📌 For other fabrics, such as polyester or nylon, test a sample first, as settings may require slight adjustments.
If you don’t have a heat press, can you use a regular household iron? Find out in our detailed guide here.
Step 4: Hot Peel for a Smooth Finish
✔ Peel the film immediately after pressing (hot peel).
✔ Peel slowly and evenly at a consistent angle to avoid lifting any part of the design. I like to peel from the bottom right corner to the top left of the transfer, bending the transfer back on itself creating an even arch.
Step 5: Final Press for Durability (Highly Recommended)
✔ Place a Teflon sheet (for a shiny finish), silicone paper, or parchment paper (for a matt finish) over the printed design.
✔ Press again for 2-5 seconds to improve durability, vibrancy, and softness.
Common Application Mistakes to Avoid
🚫 Not pre-pressing the garment – Moisture can affect adhesion.
🚫 Using the wrong temperature – Too low temperature can cause poor adhesion, too hot can flatten the design bringing through the dye of the garment in your transfer.
🚫 Peeling too early or too late – Our transfers are hot peel, so waiting too long can affect results.
